BOXING EQUIPMENT

Boxing and Kickboxing

Boxing has always been a favorite American past-time. Kickboxing is quickly following in its shadow. With boxing, two opponents face off in the squared circle and do their best to knock the other one down through ten grueling rounds. Kickboxing is similar, but because legs are allowed in combat, things can get extremely vicious. Freestyle Kickboxing was conceived as a mix of Muay Thai with boxing, karate, and a few other styles. It was created in Japan to compete against the all of the styles that it came from originally.

Many Kinds of Equpiment

Because boxing and kickboxing are so similar, they can both use the same type of training equipment. There is a large assortment of equipment that will help with training for both disciplines.

· Speed Bag – the classic boxer’s training tool. The speed bag is used to help the boxer become more accurate and quick with their blows.

· Heavy Bag – the Heavy Bag is excellent for both disciplines of boxing. Not only does it allow the boxer to practice throwing hard and heavy punches, but it also allows the kick boxer to learn to use their legs for the close contact fighting side of the sport.

· Hand Wraps – Hand wraps are light wraps that are meant to protect your hand and knuckles while training.

· Sparring Gloves – Sparring gloves are actually meant to protect the boxer’s hand and knuckles, not their opponents head. They can help prevent serious injuries, such as broken knuckles and fingers.

· Protective Footgear – Similar to sparring gloves, protective foot gear is meant to protect both the foot of the martial artist as well as the opponent on the receiving end of the kicks.

· Headgear – Headgear is an important part of both boxing and kick boxing. Whenever you are sparring with an opponent, it is essential that you wear head gear to prevent damage to the head and face. It is important that boxers and kick boxers realize that while headgear helps to keep the brain safe, it is not a full proof cure to head injuries from either sport. Serious hits that include a TKO or knockdown can still injure the opponent.
